Whatever the venue, MLMS has the expertise to manage its licensing complexities.
Hotels and Restaurants
These types of venues often cater for a wide variety of events - anything from conferences to dinner dances. As a result, they are subject to a variety of different criteria for calculating the appropriate tariffs. MLMS understands these criteria and the intricacies of each tariff, enabling us to ensure the appropriate one is applied.
Public Houses and Bars
Like hotels and restaurants, pubs and bars are also assessed with different criteria. PRS licence charges can be based either on capacity, or charged on a square meterage basis, based on whether its live entertainment (including discos and Karaokes) or recorded music and video. MLMS relieves busy bar managers of the responsibility for ensuring the correct forms are completed.
Health Clubs
For health clubs and sports centres, membership dictates the PRS tariff usage for aerobics and keep fit classes. However not all classes use music. Therefore, clubs that calculate charges based on the number of classes per year are probably paying too much. A further complication is that some instructors are already PPL licensed resulting in duplicate charges being paid. MLMS will carry out a detailed assessment and ensure clubs only pay for music that is actually played.
Holiday and Caravan Parks
Some license fees for Holiday and Caravan Parks are calculated on the number of pitches - for example, when calculating fees for background music in common areas. However, the number of beds could also be used and may meet the criteria for a lesser charge. MLMS can quickly establish the most cost effective solutions to ensure compliance and avoid over payment.
Retail
In retail outlets and shopping centres, special rules apply which vary from one licensing authority to another. A PRS licence is required for background/demonstration music and this is charged on a square meterage basis. The PRS also require that stores apply for a permit for special events that use music - such as fashion shows. A PPL licence is required for any music audible within a store and for special events, while a VPL licence will be needed if music videos are used in any department within the store.
